First Selectman - Ed Mone

Personal:
Married to Eileen for 20years, and have 5 children and 6 grandchildren. 

Lived in Thomaston for 21 years.

 

Education: Graduated from public schools, and earned an Associate’s Degree from Post College where he was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Fraternity.

 

Occupation: Currently Thomaston's First Selectman for past four years.
Ed is the sole proprietor of a painting contracting business, which has been successfully in operation since 1984. Ed's daughter handles day to day operations of the business.

 

Town Activities:

An active member of the Waterbury Elks Lodge where he has been a member for 28 years and a charter member of the Thomaston Lions Club.

Volunteer usher at the Opera House for about three years beginning in 1994. Ed served on the Inland Wetlands and Watercourse Commission from 1997 to 2004. While serving on that board, Ed was elected to Vice-Chair and later Chairman of that commission by its members.  In which he served as chairman for approximately three years.

Member of Thomaston Board of Finance and served on this board since 1999.  Ed serve as its representative to the Capital Improvements Committee, where he planned for the towns future infrastructure needs. 

Member of the Thomaston Republican Town Committee.

Current First Selectman for the past four years.

Selectman-Roger Perreault

Personal:

He is a life time resident of Thomaston.
He has been married to his wife Peg for 45 years and they have two children and two grandchildren.
He is a Navy Veteran and is very active in his church.

 

Education:

A graduate from Thomaston High School and he holds a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education

from Central Connecticut State University.

 

Work Experience:

He is a former High School Teacher, Insurance Investigator and  Police Officer.

 

The Perreault Insurance Agency, B-Dry System Basement Waterproofing Company, and Metal Supermarkets which was a metal service center, were formed by Roger over a span of 35 years.   

 

He serves on the Board of Directors at Thomaston Savings Bank and is also involved in real estate development.

 

Town Activities:

 He has served on Thomaston’s Planning & Zoning Commission, Board of Finance, and the Economic Development Commission as its Chairman. He also served on the Ambulance Corp and was the Chairman of the Finance Council at St. Thomas Church for many years. Roger also formed  J.A.I. L.  (Join Against Insensible Lawlessness) which is now known as Thomaston Crime Stoppers.

 

Currently, he is on the Grants Committee at the Connecticut Community Foundation in Waterbury and is

 a member of the American Legion. He is very involved with the Rotary Club of Thomaston and is a Past President of the Club. He is also serving on the Town’s Pension Committee. 

Served as Selectman for the past 2 years.

Town Treasurer - Kenneth Hopkins

Personal: Life-long Thomaston resident, married in 1977 to Ruth Pierpont, 2 children (Matthew, 22 & Natalie, 20)

Education:   

1969 graduate of the Thomaston Public School System

University of Connecticut, Electrical Engineering

University of New Haven, graduated Cum Laude in 1973 with BS in School of Business Administration- Law Enforcement Science.   

 

Occupation:

Eclipse Glass, North Main St., Thomaston, during High School and College

1974 – 1979:  West Hartford Police Dept.

1980-1993:  Pierpont’s Continuous Gutters, Manager

1993:  Became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ® licensee and a Registered Representative of MML Investors Services, Inc.  (part of MassMutual Life Insurance Co.)  & Eagle Bank

1998:  TJB Financial Services, Financial Planner and a Registered Representative of Investacorp, Inc.

1999-2007:  Associate of Kolb, Maguire, Bergamo, CPA’s in Watertown and a Registered Representative of American General Securities Incorp.

2002:  formed Hopkins Homes, LLC., a Property Management Co., which he still manages

2007:  started an Alpaca breeding farm

Ken has also taught Financial Planning, in adult education programs, at Conard High School, West Hartford, Newington High School and Northwestern Community College in Winsted.

 

Town Activities:

Covenant Church of Thomaston: Member, served on the Investment Committee, was Chairman of the Board of Trustees, taught Sunday school classes and served on 3 Pastoral search committees.

Thomaston Volunteer Ambulance Corp.:  EMT for 17+ years, Vice President for 2 years.

Thomaston Board of Finance:  Member from 1995 – 2001, during which time he served on the Capital Improvements and Pension Committees. He was re-appointed to the BOF in 2004 to fill a vacancy.

Boy Scouts of America:  Troop 53 Scout Master, 7 years. 

Thomaston Board of Selectmen:  2007 - 2009

Tax Collector - Margaret Duffy

Personal:
Married to Terry and has two children.

Occupation/Town Activities:
Served as Thomaston’s Assistant Tax Collector for eight years and has served as Thomaston Tax Collector for four years.
She is the assistant Secretary of the State Tax Collectors Association
She is a member of the Litchfield County Tax Collector Association and the N.E. Regional Tax Collector & Treasurers Association.
Peg served on the advisory committee to the Legislature on restructuring the statute governing tax collection.

Fire Commission - Scott Potter

Personal:
Has been a resident of Thomaston his entire life.

Occupation/Town Activities:

He has been employed for 21 years as an emergency services dispatcher in Thomaston.
A volunteer fireman for 30 years.
A Fire Commissioner for 4 years and Past President of the State Fire Fighters Association
Was a director of the National Volunteer Fire Council for 10 years
Was inducted this year into the State Firefighters Hall of Fame.

Board of Education - Jennifer McDonald

Personal:
Married to Brendan for 10 years, and has three children in the Thomaston school district.
Originally from the greater Boston area, and has lived in Thomaston for 2 1/2 years.

Education:
Graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Salem State University in 2000.

Occupation:
Recently accepted a job on Labor and Delivery at the Hospital of Central Connecticut

Maternity nurse at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington
Prior experience includes a 10 year history working with adult and pediatric medical/surgical and oncology nursing
In the year after graduating college, volunteered in Manchester, England, in a children's hospice

Town Activities:
Active member of the Thomaston Townwide PTA for the last three school years.
Active member at St. Thomas church in the Heart to Heart group, Legion of Mary and the Children's Ministry.

Other interests: Is very passionate about childhood obesity and health and nutrition for families. College thesis was based on a school-wide study on nutrition in children.

Personal:
Lives in Thomaston for 7 years and has a 10 year old daughter named Amber.

Education:
Graduated from Windsor High school.

Occupation:
Currently a stay at home Mom.

Town Activities:
Volunteers for Hospitality at St Thomas for 2 years
Volunteers at St Thomas Religious Education
Sings in the St Thomas Choir

Other Activities:
Volunteered to make No Sew Fleece Blankets for Hole in the Wall Gang Camp for 7 years
Backup photographer for the AVC and the Hold in the Wall Gang Camp
Ran the Meals on Wheels program on the Hartford Campus for 10 years and was a driver for Meals on Wheels for 12
Volunteered for the American Red Cross Blood Drives

Personal:
Married to Jack for 33 years, and have 3 step children and 6 grandchildren.
Thomaston resident for 29 years.

Education:
Graduated from public schools, and attended Western Connecticut State University studying Business Marketing.

Occupation:
A Title Agent for Bankers Life and Casualty.
Bankers Life and Casualty Company has been helping individuals and families protect their financial security and prepare for retirement. Bankers serves the retirement market through a broad portfolio of affordable, quality health and life insurance products and annuities.

Interests include: Animal rescue, cooking, writing, and reading.

Married to his wife Kathleen

Education:
He graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a degree in accounting
He is presently pursuing an MBA degree at the University of Connecticut

Occupation:
Luke is employed by the Barnes Group of Bristol, Connecticut

Town Activities:
He is presently serving as Chairman of the Thomaston Economic Development Commission.

Personal:
Married to his wife Hope and they have one child.

Education:
He is a graduate of Quinnipiac University with a degree in Business Management.

Occupation:
He has been employed by the Appraisal Firm of Biondi & Rosengrant since 1994.
He has been an expert witness on appraisal matters for the Connecticut Superior Court.

Town Activities:

A committee member for the field restoration project

Personal:
Phyllis Nardella is married to Frank and has four children.
She is a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves.

Education:
She received her Associates Degree from Naugatuck Valley Community College

Occupation:
She is employed as a paralegal at Seabourne & Malley

Town Activities:
She was an active member of the Thomaston Volunteer Ambulance Corps for 19 years and a past treasurer.

Library Trustees - Melanie Dobos


Personal:
Married to Geoffrey Dobos for 6 years and have one child.
Have lived in Thomaston 20+ years.

Education:
Graduated from Thomaston High School
Has a Bachelors Degree in Library Science from Southern Connecticut State University.

Occupation:
I am currently a Stay at Home Mother and prior was a Children's Librarian.

Town Activities:
Currently a member of the Momastons mothers group working toward replacing playground equipment at Reeves Field.
